I did not have the heart to tell you

That you have got this wrong

I'm sorry you are mistaken

But I feel I am a fraud

I have no superpowers

I cannot change the past

I cannot cure the world of this

Or bring our loved ones back

How can I be a hero

When so many have been lost

So many are grieving

And I cannot turn back the clock

I cannot restore the memories

They were yet to make

I cannot mend the hearts of those

Who must so dearly ache

I know that you mean well

Good intentions of course at face

And I thank you for the recognition

That has long been there to make

But please, do not call me a hero

For it gives me weight

I am missing that big part

I cannot save the day
